Man with child on motorcycle flees from police
An Anahola man on an unlicensed motorcycle led Kauai police on a chase Tuesday until the pursuing officer noticed that he was packing a young child on the front of the dirt bike, police said today.
The pursuit began Tuesday at 10 a.m. on Kawaihau Road in Kapaa when the suspect refused to stop, police said.
Police said they were able to identify the driver of the dirt bike as David Alapai, 29.
He was located about an hour later a driving a car on Kukui Hale Street in Anahola. He was stopped and arrested for driving while his license was revoked, resisting an order to stop driving, reckless driving and reckless endangering, failure to appear in court and contempt of court. Alapai was also arrested for theft in two unrelated cases.
Kauai police officers also located the motorcycle Alapai was driving at his campsite in Anahola and another motorcycle. Police said both had been stolen last month.
Alapai was being held in the Kauai Community Correctional Facility after failing to post $15,200 bail Tuesday.
