A new book chronicling the history of the University of Hawaii at West Oahu is now on sale at the Leeward Community College book store.

"The University of Hawaii-West Oahu: The First Forty Years 1966-2006" was recently published by former UH-West Oahu Chancellor Edward J. Kormondy.

The personalized history recounts legislative support in 1966 and discusses events leading up to the start of classes in 1976 for what was then known as West Oahu College. The first classes were held for 75 students in a high school.

The university later moved to an area adjacent to Leeward Community College. A new permanent UH-West Oahu campus is currently being built in Kapolei.

Kormondy was chancellor of UH-West Oahu and UH-Hilo from 1986 to 1993.
