Vulcans pull out close win
The Hawaii-Hilo men’s soccer team scored an early goal off a BYU-Hawaii defensive miscue to beat the Seasiders 1-0 in Laie yesterday.
BYU-Hawaii tried to make a comeback with a late run by Eric Olvera that was barely knocked away by UH-Hilo goalie Alex Parra and outshot the Vulcans 4-3 in the second half but Hilo was able to preserve the victory.
HPU falls in opener
The Hawaii Pacific women’s soccer team fell to Regis 1-0 in double overtime at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex yesterday.
HPU gave up only one goal despite being outshot 17-3 in the game as Carianne Makino posted nine saves for the Lady Sea Warriors.
HPU falls to 0-1 as Regis improves to 1-1.
Vulcans dominate ‘Swords
The UH-Hilo women’s soccer team came out strong in the second half with three goals in the closing period to cruise to an easy 4-0 victory over Chaminade yesterday in Hilo.
Hawaii-Hilo did not allow a shot on goal.
The Vulcans recorded 14 shots on goal as they improved to 1-0 for the season while Chaminade fell to 0-1.
Luo takes early lead
Wenaho Luo recorded a first round 72 to take a two-stroke lead in the boys 15-18 division at the HSJGA Dave and Busters Junior Classic at the Waikele Golf Club yesterday.
Colby Takushi had the second-lowest score and holds a two stroke lead in the boys 13-14 age division after shooting a 73 yesterday.
Lisa Kang holds a one-stroke lead in the girls 13-14 age division after shooting an opening round 75 and Monica La Keo holds a three stroke lead after coming in with a 79 to start the girls 15-18 division.
The final round concludes today.
