A 22-year-old Nanakuli man accused of killing his father in a vehicle crash this year is facing 10 years in prison for negligent homicide.

An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment yesterday charging Logan Kamuela Kaimo Awong with first-degree negligent homicide.

Jason Awong, 39, died after his son crashed their pickup truck near their home Jan. 23. He was the front-seat passenger in the truck driven by his son.

Police said Logan Awong was drunk and speeding.

His blood-alcohol content was 0.14, said Vickie Kapp, deputy city prosecutor. The legal limit is 0.08.

Police said the pickup truck hit a mailbox on Haleakala Avenue, then a rock wall, knocked down a utility pole and hit a fire hydrant and a tree before crossing the roadway and hitting another utility pole.

Logan Awong sustained minor injuries.

Police arrested him at the scene for drunken driving, driving with a suspended license and first-degree negligent injury. They released him later pending investigation.
