Patacchia moves on in Tahiti

Hawaii’s Fred Patacchia advanced to the fourth round of the Billabong Pro Tahiti yesterday at Teahupoo.

Patacchia defeated Travis Logie 18.50 to 14.07.

Another Hawaii surfer, Andy Irons won his second-round heat against Tanner Gudauskas, 15.06 to 5.20, and moved on to the third round, where he will meet Matt Wilkinson in the Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour contest.

Hawaii’s Dusty Payne beat Brett Simpson 12.77 to 11.83 in the second round, but was eliminated in a 17.83 to 6.84 third-round loss to Adam Meiling.

Roy Powers and Kekoa Bacalso of Hawaii were eliminated in their second-round heats yesterday.

 

Pro football tryouts Sept. 18

Tryouts for the Hawaii Professional Football League will be held on Sept. 18 at Aloha Stadium at 9 a.m.

The tryouts are open to players 20 years and over and the registration cost is $40.

Teams with owners are based in Waianae, Kapolei, Honolulu and Central Oahu, according to Carson Peapalalo, the president of the league.

 

Mosi Tatupu remembered

Mosi Tatupu will be remembered with a 30-second video tribute tomorrow before the Hawaii-USC football game.

Tatupu, a multi-sport standout at Punahou, Trojans blocking back and 14-year NFL player, died Feb. 23 at age 54.
