  • Anteprima Wirebag’s FNO notebook.

Fashion’s Night Out was conceived by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and designer and Council of Fashion Designers President Diane von Furstenberg, as a way for retailers, designers and all involved in the fashion world to come together to save their industry after the economy collapsed and it became clear people were too cash-strapped to shop.

The event quickly expanded to dozens of cities around the globe, including Honolulu, where Ala Moana Center is officially registered to use the Fashion’s Night Out name. The event takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 10, coinciding with the start of New York Fashion Week.

Four fashion shows will be held on Center Stage, hourly beginning at 5 p.m. Retailers featured are 7 For All Mankind, Anteprima Wirebag, BCBG Max Azria, Banana Republic, bebe, Betsey Johnson, Blue Hawaii Surf, Cache, Diesel, Island Edge, Jimmy Choo, Metropark, Philip Rickard Honolulu, Spiral Girl, and Tori Richard, with make-up by Sephora and hair by Ho’ala Salon and Spa.

The center is inviting the public to donate gently used suits and career staples to benefit Dress For Success Honolulu, an organization that helps dress individuals in need to re-enter the work force. Items wanted include classic suits and separates, jackets and sweater sets, handbags, accessories, shoes and unused cosmetics.

Drop-off locations are at Betsey Johnson, Cole Haan, Custo Barcelona, DKNY, Folli Follie, Hawaiian Island Creations, Ho’ala Salon and Spa, Jimmy Choo, Links of London, Neiman Marcus, Sephora, Valerie Joseph, Vera Bradley and Center Court, Mall Level.

A free limited-edition Fashion’s Night Out tote will be available while supplies last for those who present $75 in receipts from participating FNO stores. Receipts must be dated from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 10; the offer excludes gift-card purchases. Present receipts at the Center Court Mall Level 2 reception desk. There is a limit of one bag per person, and you must be 13 or older to participate.
