A sense of adventure and a love of the outdoors. It’s added up to Connie Sizemore’s philosophy of staying active.

Name: Connie Sizemore
Age: 53
Hometown: Kailua
Sport: Trail running

She’s never met a trail she didn’t like. Not a surprise for the Swiss-born Sizemore, who describes herself as a bit of a mountain goat.

"I love to be outside, have way too much energy to stay indoors," said Sizemore, who is developmental director for Family Programs Hawaii. "And I have a bit of a competitive streak. It’s surf and turf for me. Love to run, love to be out paddling."

She has completed eight Honolulu marathons (a best of 4:15), several off-road triathlons, and the Hana relays, but Sizemore said trail running is her favorite. She’s an avid hasher — a non-competitive social running activity — with the nickname of ‘Short Strokes."

Sizemore’s workout routine includes running, spinning and paddling three times (each) a week; boot camp or weights twice a week and a day each of hiking and yoga.

"My favorite workout is, of course, trail running with the (Honolulu Hash House Harriers)," said Sizemore, who moved to Hawaii in 1980. "You never know what you are going to get. My second favorite is my Sunday morning paddling with ‘the girls,’ a great group of women."
