Police believe the skeletal remains of a man found in Makiki Stream yesterday may be those of a missing person.

“We suspect it’s somebody we’ve been looking for,” said Honolulu police Lt. David Kamai.

He said detectives are waiting for the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office to identify the body.

The remains were wearing shorts and appear to be a couple months old, Kamai said. The missing person who police suspect the remains belong to was a local resident.

Police said two people stumbled upon the body while fishing in the stream off Makiki Heights Road before 5:50 p.m. Thursday.
