Teenager slashed in robbery attempt

Police say a suspect slashed a Kalihi teenager with a knife Tuesday evening during a robbery attempt.

The 17-year-old victim was walking home when the suspect — a 15- or 16-year-old boy — pulled out a knife and demanded money about 6 p.m., police said. The 17-year-old refused and was slashed with the knife in the face and back, police said.

The suspect fled on foot.

Enchanted Lake fire deliberately set

Fire investigators have determined that a Labor Day brush fire in Enchanted Lake was deliberately set and want the public to go to police with information about its origin.

About 50 acres burned at the ridge between homes in Enchanted Lake and Kailua High School on Monday afternoon.

Flames got as close as 10 to 20 yards from several structures at the high school, said Capt. Terry Seelig, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman. The fire appeared to have started in brush just off Akiohala Street, he said.

2 held after drugs found in vehicle

Two suspects were being held in lieu of $21,500 bail after a police dog alerted officers to drugs in their vehicle, Big Island police said.

Authorities arrested and charged Jovina Lagaret, 24, of Kawaihae and Patrick Medeiros Jr., 30, of Kapaau with drug and firearms offenses last Thursday after a traffic stop in Kohala, police said.

Vice officers had been looking for Lagaret in connection with a drug investigation when she was seen driving a sport utility vehicle with Medeiros on Kohala Mountain Road last Thursday morning, police said.

A narcotics detection dog detected drugs in the SUV and police obtained a search warrant, discovering numerous packets of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of $1,800, a digital scale, Valium tablets, $140 in cash and rifle ammunition, police said yesterday.

Prosecutors charged both suspects with one count each of promoting a dangerous drug, meth trafficking, promoting a harmful drug, a firearms violation and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Help sought in solving car break-ins

Big Island police are asking for the public’s help to gather more information about a rash of vehicle break-ins in Waikoloa Village.

Police said the suspect or suspects are apparently targeting vehicles in the late evening or early morning hours.
