Two men, one armed with a rifle, forced their way into a Puna home Wednesday and stole several large marijuana plants, Big Island police said.

Officers responding to a call at 4:40 a.m. found a 39-year-old man had been assaulted in the home invasion robbery on Opeapea Street in Kurtistown.

The three residents told officers that a large, dark truck drove into their driveway with two men, who assaulted the man and took the plants.

A 51-year-old woman and a 92-year-old man hid in the house during the robbery, police said.

Firefighters took the beaten man to Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

Anyone with information about the home invasion is asked to call Detective Brian Miller at (808) 966-5836 or police at (808) 935-3311. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300 in Hilo or (808) 329-8181 in Kona.
