New mayor to keep old Cabinet for “probationary” period

All city department directors and staff will remain on the job as the new administration of Mayor-elect Peter Carlisle begins his transition to office.

Carlisle said all directors would remain on staff, but called it a “probationary” period where each side would learn whether they would be able to work together moving forward.

He gave no timetable on when he hoped to have his permanent Cabinet in place.

Carlisle and acting Mayor Kirk Caldwell held a joint news conference today to discuss the transition.

Caldwell said he issued a directive to all current Cabinet members to be cooperative and assist in any way possible. He has designated a five-member team of city employees to assist Carlisle’s team.

Carlisle may not be sworn-in until Oct. 8, after a mandatory 20-day wait period to certify the special election and allow for any challenge to be filed.
