State evicts campers from Waahila Ridge State Park
State Department of Land and Natural Resources enforcement officers ejected campers who had set up an illegal campsite and ground camp fire in Waahila Ridge State Park at St. Louis Heights Wednesday, DNLR spokeswoman said.
Posted signs state that camping and open ground fires are not allowed in any areas of the park.
Earlier this week, park workers found smoldering logs in one of the three above-ground barbecue pits when they arrived for work in the morning.
The park closes at 6:45 p.m. and night use of the pits is not allowed.
Land department officials are concerned about the threat of a fire because of the dry weather conditions and the thick Norfolk Island Pine forest at Waahila Ridge, which is near homes on St. Louis Heights.
