With today’s game against Charleston Southern, the Hawaii football team has reached the point of no return.

The fourth game in a 13-game regular season means the active roster is essentially frozen. That means the newcomers who have not played — including running back Jon Lister, kicker Tyler Hadden, defensive end Beau Yap, wideout Darius Bright, and defensive backs Daryl McBride, Dee Maggitt and Bubba Poueu-Luna — will redshirt, barring an emergency situation.

It means the first phase of the season — the opener against Southern California and road games against Army and Colorado — is over. The Warriors had set a goal of refining schemes and developing team chemistry during the three-game phase.

The Warriors also believe they have found their playmakers: Slotback Kealoha Pilares and wideout Royce Pollard have elevated their games; linebacker Corey Paredes, who has played every defensive snap this year; and freshman sensation John Hardy-Tuliau.

After three games, head coach Greg McMackin said, the evaluations are complete. Now, he said, "We’re going to play our best players."

Here’s a look at today’s game:
