Coast Guard rescues 3 whose boat capsized off Nawiliwili
Coast Guard crews rescued three people off Nawiliwili Harbor after their vessel overturned about 3 a.m. today.
Search and rescue coordinators from Coast Guard Sector Honolulu received a distress call from the captain of the 25-foot pleasure craft at about 2:30 a.m. Coordinators relayed the information to search and rescue crews on Kauai.
Rescue crews arrived on scene at 3:40 a.m. and found two people in water near the capsized boat, about one mile south of the harbor. The rescue team picked them up and transferred them to a 31-foot utility boat.
The boat’s captain reported there was a third person who had jumped overboard and tried to swim to shore. The third person was found on the breakwall, signaling the rescue crew with his flashlight.
The sea conditions were reported at 10-knot winds and three-foot seas. No injuries were reported.
