$10 million grant going to Hawaii health centers
More than $10 million in federal money is being spent to modernize and expand health centers serving rural communities, low income families and the uninsured on Oahu and the Big Island.
Hawaii’s three Democratic members of congress announced Friday the money will be used for construction and renovation while helping the clinics expand access to health care.
The money comes from a grant included in national health reform legislation.
Nearly $8 million was awarded to the Waianae District Comprehensive Health and Hospital Board and its primary care clinics in Waianae, Nanakuli, Waipahu and Kapolei.
More than $2 million will go toward the Bay Clinic in Hilo.
U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye says the money will increase access to affordable health care.
