After another suspicious Central Oahu brush fire yesterday, police said they have identified possible suspects in connection with a string of recent blazes.

Lt. Lisa Mann, of the Honolulu Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, said detectives have persons of interest in five suspicious brush fires in Central Oahu.

She said witness statements have helped police identify the people of interest.

Yesterday’s fire started about 11 a.m. near the Ka Uka Boulevard offramp, along the Wahiawa-bound lanes of the H-2 Freeway, said Honolulu fire Capt. Gary Lum.

Firefighters extinguished the small fire in about an hour.

Lum said that the fire investigator suspects the blaze was intentionally set because no other possible sources of ignition were in the area.

Last week, there were three suspicious fires in Waipio — two on land slated for the makai Koa Ridge residential development and another about a half-mile away.

Police say they are investigating, but do not suspect a serial arsonist.

"We have not found out anything that makes us believe that the same person is responsible," she said.
