Both U.S. Rep. Charles Djou and state Senate President Colleen Hanabusa have gone over the $2 million mark in fundraising in their race for the 1st Congressional District.

Djou, the Republican incumbent, has raised the most, with $2.1 million for the campaign, including $390,000 raised in the month of September. He entered October with $395,000 in cash left on hand, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Hanabusa has raised $2.03 million in the campaign, including $336,000 last month. She entered October with $547,000 in cash on hand.

Djou won the seat in a special election in May to replace Neil Abercrombie, the longtime Democrat who stepped down to concentrate on his run for governor.

The campaigns also have received plenty of support from outside sources as national Democrats and Republicans seeking a majority in the U.S. House have poured money into various campaign ads.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has spent about $1 million on the race since the special election season began. The National Republican Congressional Committee had stayed out of the race until last week, when it committed $121,000 for television ads against Hanabusa.
