» The Play: QB Colin Kaepernick fakes a handoff up the middle and runs left. He fumbles when hit by LB Corey Paredes, and CB Jeramy Bryant recovers at the Nevada 19. It is Bryant’s fifth takeaway in four games.
» Impact: Two plays later Hawaii scores the game’s first points on QB Bryant Moniz’s 6-yard pass to SB Kealoha Pilares, putting Nevada behind on the scoreboard for the first time this season. Hawaii holds Nevada to 55 yards and one first down in the first quarter.
» Hawaii defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga: "The coaches told us (Nevada’s) O-line was the weak point. The ends did a great job of squeezing down. That left (the defensive tackles) one on one. All we had to do was beat our guy."

» The Play: Kaepernick is flushed from the pocket. He rolls left and throws into the end zone. S Richard Torres intercepts the pass and returns it to the Hawaii 21.
» Impact: The interception negates Hawaii’s only turnover of the game and thwarts Nevada’s deepest penetration of the first half. Nevada does not score until 1:18 left in the third quarter, and finishes with 293 yards — 152 less than its average entering the game.
» Hawaii defensive coordinator Dave Aranda: "It’s a scary offense. There’s so many things you have to stop in that offense. It preys on guys being indecisive. Guys being cued to wrong alignments, tied to the wrong spot. So I give all the credit to the players. They really focused in, and there was a plan, it had some complexity, they bought in and the players had a great night tonight."

3. HOLLYWOOD

Paredes, in zone pass defense, catches Kaepernick right before he crosses the goal line and knocks the ball out of his right hand. The play is originally ruled a touchdown, but after a replay review a touchback is ruled, Paredes is credited for his second forced fumble of the game and Hawaii gets the ball.
» Impact: What would have been an 11-play, 82-yard drive on its first possession of the third quarter ends with no points and more frustration for Nevada.
» Paredes: "I seen him holding the ball one-hand, Hollywood. So I just whacked it out."

4. "THE PLAY"

» Situation: Hawaii 20, Nevada 14, 7:45 remaining, fourth quarter, Hawaii ball first and 15 at own 49
» The Play: Moniz escapes DE Dontay Moch, goes left and finally finds SB Greg Salas open. Salas makes the catch and goes for a 37-yard gain.
» Impact: Three plays later Hawaii gets some much-needed insurance when Moniz hits WR Royce Pollard with an 11-yard touchdown pass.
» Nevada coach Chris Ault: "We’ve got him sacked, and we let him get out. It was a great play by Moniz, no question about it. I think that might have been the play of the game, because we had some momentum going."

5. REDEMPTION

» Situation: Hawaii 27, Nevada 21, 1:32 remaining, fourth quarter, Nevada ball first and 10 at Hawaii 35
» The Play: Silva gets his fourth interception of the season and 10th of his UH career after Torres tips Kaepernick’s pass.
» Impact: The fourth turnover produced by the Hawaii defense seals the outcome after Nevada threatened to win the game with a late touchdown and a successful onside kick — which Silva said he should have recovered.
» Silva: "I should’ve jumped up for the ball (on the kick). That was all on me. … (The interception) was like an angel ready to fall. With gravity, it fell right into my hands, … (a) glimpse of heaven."
