Both candidates for the 1st Congressional District are headed to the finish line with plenty of campaign cash at their disposal.

Incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Charles Djou doubled the amount of funds raised by Democratic rival Colleen Hanabusa in the first two weeks of October, but the state Senate president has more cash on hand for the closing weeks of the race.

Djou raised $226,000 in the pre-general election reporting period from Oct. 1 to 13, according to reports filed this week with the Federal Election Commission. He has raised more than $2.32 million for the campaign.

"This close to the general election, we are exactly where we want to be," Djou spokesman Daniel Son said in a news release. "The establishment is circling the wagons around Hanabusa in a desperate attempt to maintain the status quo.

"But people are not satisfied with Congress. People do not want more of the same."

Hanabusa raised $112,000 during the same pre-general election reporting period and has raised $2.14 million for the campaign.

She entered the second half of October with $440,000 in cash on hand, compared with $382,000 for Djou.

Hanabusa’s campaign declined comment.

Among the major contributors to the campaigns in the past reporting period, Djou received the maximum $5,000 contribution from groups including Ernst & Young PAC, Associated Builders and Contractors PAC, Exxon Mobile Corp. PAC, the National Restaurant Association PAC and the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Hanabusa’s maximum contributors included Unite Here Tip Campaign Committee, Service Employees International Union, Communications Workers of America and the Teamsters’ Democratic Republican Independent Voter Education PAC.
