Around the NFL

CAROLINA PANTHERS

Receiver Steve Smith has practiced for a third straight day and is probable for tomorrow’s game against San Francisco.

Smith has been out since spraining his left ankle against New Orleans on Oct. 3.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

The Jaguars ruled out starter David Garrard yesterday because of a concussion and listed backup Trent Edwards as questionable with a badly sprained thumb on his throwing hand. That leaves Todd Bouman as the healthiest and most knowledgeable option on the roster.

Coach Jack Del Rio declined to name a starter, but Bouman got the majority of repetitions during practice all week and teammates expect him to get the nod at Kansas City tomorrow.

MIAMI DOLPHINS

First-round draft pick Jared Odrick has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

The team made the move yesterday, two days after Odrick hurt his left foot in practice. The injury occurred with the defensive end on the verge of rejoining the lineup after missing four games because of a broken right leg.

TENNESSEE TITANS

Quarterback Vince Young has missed a third straight practice with a sprained left knee and ankle and is questionable for tomorrow’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Coach Jeff Fisher has said Young could start without practicing.

LEGAL ISSUES

» Prosecutors in San Diego won’t charge former NFL star Junior Seau after his live-in girlfriend alleged she was assaulted.

The San Diego County district attorney’s office said yesterday that it reached its decision after reviewing an investigation by Oceanside police. The office declined to elaborate in a brief statement.

» A gun charge in the Florida Panhandle has been dropped against former San Francisco 49ers running back Glen Coffee.

According to a court document signed Thursday, Assistant State Attorney William Bishop determined that Coffee did not violate the law by having a loaded pistol in the center console of his 2008 Cadillac during a traffic stop.

Under Florida law, a person can possess a concealed firearm if its "securely encased."
