Secret Service sweep gives party dash of power

SHEILA WATUMULL threw a cocktail party for Sen. Dan Inouye and his wife, Irene, last Friday. Gary Aiko and Alan Akaka entertained the 75 guests, and Aaron Mahi sang a song backed by the pair. Jim Nabors, Sheila’s neighbor, was among the many Hawaii movers and shakers who attended. A version of "Danny Boy" by Jim would have been cool. Michel’s, Natsunoya and Sconees catered. Inouye is third in succession for the presidency, so five Secret Service agents were inside Sheila’s Diamond Head home and more were outside, she said. What’s more, all guests had to give their Social Security numbers to the security personnel and the home was "swept" by them before the party. "It was really a power trip," Sheila said. "I loved it." …

Before that, Al played bad guys on the program until Leonard Freeman chose him to replace Zulu as the character Ben Kokua. The questions from journalists ranged from the launch of the remake to personal stories and anecdotes about the original show. …
