The Coast Guard is continuing its search for a fisherman reported overdue 2,100 miles southwest of Oahu.

Coast Guard officials said today that it received a call for assistance Monday from the U.S. Embassy in the Marshall Islands.

It reported 50-year-old Mosen Abija was last seen Friday morning after setting out in a 12-foot wood-hulled canoe from Wotja Island in Ailinglaplap Atoll.

A C-130 Hercules aircraft was sent from Barbers Point Air Station. The aircrew arrived yesterday and searched throughout the day, and the search resumed this morning.

Officials say the search area is focused in the vicinity of the atoll, where rescuers have covered more than 1,120 square miles — an area nearly twice the size of Oahu.
