A man who recognized a suspect in a Waipahu theft as his nephew turned him in yesterday afternoon.

Police said a woman, 52, was walking in the parking lot of a Farrington Highway business when someone approached her from behind, grabbed her purse, and fled on foot.

The incident was caught on the surveillance system of a nearby establishment, police said.

When an employee of the establishment recognized the suspect as his nephew, he took police to the suspect’s house on Awanei Street, where the suspect, 19, was arrested.
