Friday deadline to file for Apo’s seat
Four candidates have filed to run for the City Council seat being vacated by Todd Apo.
The deadline for candidates to file for the seat is Friday.
In the race so far are former state Rep. Bob McDermott, Mel Kahele of Local 625 of the Ironworkers Union, Chris Lewis and Matthew LoPresti, a Hawaii Pacific University assistant professor of philosophy and humanities.
Apo, who represented Leeward Coast-Ewa District 1, resigned last week to take a job with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts in Hawaii.

Resumes flood Abercrombie website
More than 2,400 people have applied to work in the administration of Gov.-elect Neil Abercrombie.
Abercrombie spokeswoman Laurie Au said yesterday that 2,430 resumes had been submitted through the governor-elect’s website, newdayhawaii.org.
Yesterday was the suggested deadline for applicants and the day scrutiny began on resumes received earlier.
But Au said resumes will continue to be accepted until all posts have been filled.
She said no decisions on Cabinet members or other positions have been made.
Abercrombie is due to be sworn in on Dec. 6.

Accident victim dies of injuries
Hawaii County police said a 24-year-old Papaikou man involved in a one-vehicle crash on Sunday died yesterday.
Tylor K. Souza was driving south in a 1985 Toyota pickup on Hawaii Belt Road south of the Honomu Transfer Station road when he lost control at the 14-mile marker, police said.
The truck crossed the center line, struck guardrails on both shoulders and overturned, police said.
Souza was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the truck.
Fire-rescue personnel took Souza to Hilo Medical Center, where he died at 3 a.m. yesterday.
Police say excessive speed and alcohol may have been factors in the crash.
This was the 24th county traffic fatality compared with 20 the same time last year.
