A 63-year-old California man was critically injured yesterday after crashing a rented motorcycle on Maui.

The man was driving a 2010 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail motorcycle downhill on Haleakala Crater Road in Kula about 3:25 p.m., Maui police said. He veered off the roadway and hit a rock wall.

Police said the Tuolomne man was ejected from the motorcycle and fell down an embankment.

He was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
