Benefit race honors injured paddler

Luke’s ThanksGeev’um Race, a benefit race in honor of injured paddler Luke Evslin, is set for 10 a.m. Sunday.

Evslin, a coach and paddler for Kailua, requested that proceeds from the event go to Project Pure Light, an organization that enables physically, mentally and emotionally disabled people to participate in water sports.

The race courses are from Waimanalo Beach Park to Kailua Beach, and from Makai Pier to Kailua Beach. The entry fee is $25 today and $30 race day between 7:30 and 9 a.m. Registration is available online at ocpaddler.com. Donations may be sent to Kailua Canoe Club, P.O. Box 177, Kailua, HI 96734. For information, contact Lois Hewitt at 330-9812.
