Kaneohe diver’s body is identified

A free diver who died Thursday afternoon in Kaneohe Bay has been identified as Melvin Lima, 59, of Mililani.

Friends diving with Lima reported that he had not returned to their boat. The Honolulu Fire Department, Coast Guard and Navy searched for more than an hour until the Fire Department helicopter spotted his body at about 3:10 p.m., floating in waters about a quarter-mile off the Kaneohe side of Kapapa Island, Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig said.

Lima was taken to Heeia Kea Boat Harbor, where paramedics pronounced him dead at 3:48 p.m., said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department.

2 are charged in separate stabbings

Two people were charged Wednesday with stabbing their drinking buddies in separate incidents in Mililani.

Theresa Dahl-Mueller of Mililani started arguing Monday afternoon with a 50-year-old woman she had been drinking with earlier in the day, police said.

The two were returning from the store when Dahl-Mueller took out a knife and stabbed the woman several times while in a vehicle at about 3:15 p.m., police said.

The other passengers took the knife away, and Dahl-Mueller, 62, was arrested. She was charged yesterday with second-degree attempted murder and was being held on $50,000 bail.

Prosecutors also charged Joseph Zdyrski of Mililani with attempted murder after he got into an argument with his drinking buddy, who complained Zdyrski was making too much noise in front of the victim’s Makanulau Street home, police said.

The victim was stabbed in the shoulder and arm at about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Police ID body found near bridge

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has released the identity of a man whose body was found near the Karsten Thot Bridge in Wahiawa.

Officials are still trying to determine the cause of death for 30-year-old Stefano Tuipulotu. His body was found face down in the water just after noon Sunday.

Teen is arrested in Kailua robbery

A 17-year-old boy was arrested for robbery in a Kailua park Thursday, more than a week after the incident.

The victim, 17, said he was approached at the park on Nov. 9 by two men who demanded money from him. When he told them he had no money, they assaulted him and took his iPod, police said. On Thursday a witness spotted one of the suspects at the park and called police.

California motorcyclist hurt in crash

A 63-year-old California man was critically injured Wednesday after crashing a rented motorcycle on Maui.

The man was driving a 2010 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail motorcycle down Haleakala Crater Road in Kula at about 3:25 p.m., Maui police said. The vehicle veered off the roadway and hit a rock wall.

Police said the Tuolomne man was thrown from the motorcycle and fell down an embankment. He was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.

Burglary at vet clinic ends in arrest

A Washington state man was arrested early Wednesday in a break-in at Kihei Veterinary Clinic, police told the Maui News.

A caller who was walking a dog reported the burglary at 2:08 a.m.

Lt. Tim Gapero said a responding officer detained someone matching the description of the intruder. Toby Rubbert, 30, was charged with second-degree burglary. His bail was set at $5,000.
