Crash ignites grass fire on Kauai, forces road closure
A 30-year-old Kapaa woman crashed into a utility pole that ignited a small grass fire in Kapaa yesterday, prompting the temporary closure of Lapis Road, Kauai officials said today.
The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Wilcox Hospital, officials said.
She was driving east on Laipo Road around 12:46 p.m. when she crashed into a utility pole.
The pole’s wires blocked both the east and west bound lanes of Laipo Road and ignited a grass fire.
The crash, fire and subsequent clean-up work forced the closure of Laipo Road between the Kula Mauu Street junction and Lepo Road junction.
