Western Athletic Conference commissioner Karl Benson renewed the conference’s interest in retaining the University of Hawaii as a member today with no apparent change in the Warriors’ plans to pursue Mountain West membership.

Benson and UH athletic director Jim Donovan met prior to the Rainbow Wahine’s appearance in the WAC Volleyball Tournament in Las Vegas.

Donovan said he communicated the proposals Benson made with the rest of the UH management team and declined comment.

UH President M. R.C. Greenwood was traveling and not immediately available for comment.

UH has been in discussion with the MWC about becoming a football-only member and placing other sports teams in the Big West Conference.

UH is the WAC’s longest running current member at 32 years.
