Woman hit by car in store parking lot

A 51-year-old woman was fighting for her life at the Queen’s Medical Center tonight after she was hit by a car at the parking lot of the Kaheka Street Don Quijote store around 4:38 p.m.

The victim, of Honolulu, was hit and knocked over by a black Ford Mustang driven by an 18-year-old man, also of Honolulu, said Acting Lt. Alan Vegas of the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.

Initial indications were that the woman’s more serious injuries were caused by the fall because she hit her head on the asphalt, Vegas said.

The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to a nearby trauma center in critical condition, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services.

The driver appears to have been dropping a relative off at the bustling department store.
