Sony Open sponsorship extended through 2014
The Sony Corporation announced a three-year extension as title sponsor of the Sony Open in Hawaii golf tournament today.
Sony general manager Kay Aoki said the extension will run through 2014.
The Jan. 13-16 event at Waialae Country Club will be broadcast live in 3D, the first PGA Tournament co-sponsored event to feature live weekend coverage in 3D, PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said in a statement.
Sony, which will be in its 13th year as title sponsor, took over sponsorship of the event in 1999 following United Airlines.
“We have seen what high-definition does for golf telecasts and 3D is the logical next step to enhancing our broadcasts and providing fans with the ultimate viewing experience, particularly in such a beautiful setting as Hawaii,” Finchem said.
It is the Tour’s first full-field event of the season and follows the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at Kapalua.
