A four-door Subaru sedan containing a body was found yesterday burning on Auloa Road in Maunawili.

Homicide detectives are trying to piece together a case involving a body found in a burning car yesterday morning in Maunawili.

Firefighters responded to a 6:41 a.m. call of a car fire along the short section of Auloa Road on the Kaneohe side of the Pali Highway near Castle Junction, where the Pali and Kamehameha highways intersect, said Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig.

The fire was reported under control at 6:59 a.m. and extinguished at 7:09 a.m., Seelig said.

Police Homicide Lt. David Kamai said the body was found in the driver’s seat of a four-door Subaru sedan that appeared to be blue.

Police had not ruled out suicide or any other cause of death, and authorities haven’t yet determined whether the person was already dead when the fire began, Kamai said.

Police said that, preliminarily, there were no reports of missing persons or stolen vehicles that could be related to the case, he said.
