Tacub wins at BMX nationals
Hawaii’s Akoni Tacub won the 16-novice division at last week’s ABA BMX Grand Nationals in Tulsa, Okla., the best finish for Hawaii’s five-rider contingent.
Advancing to the main event in their respective classes were Team Hawaii’s Roland Ingano fifth, Kevin Mokuahi seventh, and Jaiden Bing and Landon Paracuelles both eighth. The five all train at Island BMX on Sand Island.

Vercruyssen to Pan Am Cup
U.S. women’s trampoline champion Nani Vercruyssen, a freshman at Kapiolani Community College, and the rest of the U.S. Trampoline Team begin competing tomorrow at the Pan American Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The event is part of the qualification process for next year’s Pan American Games and the 2012 Olympics in London.

Special rate for 2011 Kauai Marathon
Discounted entry fees for next year’s Kauai Marathon are available through Dec. 15 for kamaaina and active duty military.
The rates are $40 for the half-marathon, $60 for the marathon and $225 for the new four-person marathon relay. Entry forms are available at thekauaimarathon.com and must be postmarked by Dec. 15.
The races are scheduled for Sept. 4.
Gear up for GAR
The Kaiser Permanente Great Aloha Run’s "In Training" Workshop begins later this month with the first of nine weekly clinics that will prepare participants for the Feb. 21 race.
The workshops are at 6:45 a.m. Sundays from Dec. 19 through Feb. 13 at Kapiolani Park Bandstand. Training groups are designated for runners, joggers, walk-runners and walkers who’ll compete in the 8.15-mile event from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium on Presidents Day.
The workshops are free to race entrants. Online race registration is available at www.greataloharun.com.
