Honolulu police officer charged with theft

A Honolulu police officer was arrested and cited for theft at a Mililani shopping center on Tuesday.

Officer James Yee, 48, was arrested at the Mililani Town Center around 8:15 p.m. and charged with fourth-degree theft, a petty misdemeanor.

He was released on $50 bail, pending an appearance at Wahiawa District Court on Jan. 4.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that he is a 20-year veteran most recently assigned to the Honolulu patrol district. He has been stripped of his police authority and has been taken off of patrol duty pending the outcome of his case.

Police Chief Louis Kealoha, in a statement, said “I am very disappointed to learn of the allegations, and we have opened criminal and administrative investigations.”
