Hawaii Rep. Hirono still undecided on tax compromise

U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii remains undecided on the tax cut compromise brokered by President Barack Obama and Republican congressional leaders.

In an e-mail to constituents Monday, the Democrat didn’t indicate how she will vote, but said she discussed her concerns with Obama in the last few days.

She also noted her support for a nonbinding resolution approved last week by the House Democratic caucus that voiced strong criticism of the tax accord.

Hirono said she’s heard from constituents who want her to vote for the compromise and others who want her to oppose it.

A House floor vote on the pact, which could end up being amended, is expected this week.

Republican U.S. Rep. Charles Djou of Hawaii backs the accord.
