Ewa Beach man arrested in assault
Police arrested a 43-year-old Ewa Beach man who allegedly assaulted his 31-year-old wife and 13-year-old daughter and threatened them with a baseball bat Sunday night.
Police said the man argued with his wife at their home, struck her with his fist and threatened her with a bat at about 6 p.m.
The man then argued with his 13-year-old daughter and punched her several times, police said.
The man was in custody pending charges of terroristic threatening and abuse of a household member.
Man dies after truck strikes him
A man died after being hit by an 18-wheel semitrailer truck on the Big Island early yesterday morning, the Hawaii County Fire Department said.
The accident happened at about 1:49 a.m. near Honokaa on Highway 19 between Mailbox Road and Kalopa Road, according to a news release.
Intruders are sought in vandalism
Kauai police are asking for the public’s help in connection with an intrusion and vandalism reported over the weekend at Sacred Heart Church in Eleele.
The church’s caretaker notified authorities of the incident on Friday.
Intruders might have broken in at any time since the previous Sunday, police said. While nothing was reported missing, some religious items were damaged.

Human bones are recovered in Kauai valley
Kauai police are investigating the discovery of human bones in remote Kalalau Valley.
A county news release said a team of detectives and personnel from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources flew into the valley around 10 a.m. yesterday to investigate.
According to police, the bones were old and weathered with no clothing attached.
The bones were brought to police headquarters in Lihue for processing and documentation. Arrangements are being made to send the remains to a lab on Oahu tomorrow for possible identification.
