Maui woman to get probation in traffic death that killed 8-year-old boy
WAILUKU >> A woman charged in a fatal head-on collision that killed an 8-year-old Texas boy has pleaded no contest to manslaughter.
The Maui News reported Brittney Mooney will serve 10 years’ probation under a plea agreement. She will have spent two years behind bars by the time of her sentencing in August.
Judge Joel August said Wednesday the court will honor the plea agreement.
On June 3, 2007, a car Mooney was driving crossed the center line of Honoapiilani Highway and hit an oncoming rental car, killing one of its occupants, Will Smith.
Mooney must perform 500 hours of community service and talk to people about excessive speeding.
