HPU downs Fayetteville; BYUH falls

Mana Hopkins poured in a career-high 28 points to lead Hawaii Pacific over Fayetteville State (N.C.) 75-59 in the Malika Sports Hoop ‘N Surf Classic yesterday at Kilauea Gym.

Paris Gravely added 19 points for the Sea Warriors (5-3), who won their fourth straight game. LaQuasha Jordan led FSU (1-6) with 19 points.

» Charleston (W.Va.) defeated Brigham Young-Hawaii 83-71 yesterday, also at the Malika Sports Hoop ‘N Surf Classic.

Dara Tompkison led the Seasiders (1-7) with 27 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Wahine Volleyball banquet date set

The 2010 Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Banquet is Jan. 24 at Outrigger Canoe Club. The dinner buffet begins at 6 p.m. Deadline to register is Jan. 17. Cost is $35 ($30 for Wahine Volleyball Booster Club members). Priority reserved seating for tables of eight and corporate tables of 10 are also available. » Hawaii again leads the country in the final unofficial national attendance statistics. The Wahine’s average crowd of 6,136 was 1,500 more than No. 2 Nebraska. Only 16 schools drew more than 2,000. All 19 UH home crowds were among this year’s top 30. Hawaii’s largest crowd was 7,866 against Southern Cal — its only home loss of the season. The Wahine have led the country in attendance since moving into the Stan Sheriff Center in 1994.
