Kauai firefighters discovered the body of an elderly woman after extinguishing a house fire in Koloa early this morning, county officials said.

The woman’s identity was being withheld today pending notification of next of kin.

The fire to a 1,200-foot, single-family home at 3748 Aloha Place was reported at 2:45 a.m. today. 

Firefighters from the Koloa, Kalaheo and Lihue stations had the fire under control at 3:10 a.m. and discovered the woman’s body when they entered what remained of the house, county officials said.

The fire caused "significant damage" to the house, county officials said.
