A young man was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition with head and other injuries after he  jumped out of a moving van in Salt Lake early this morning, police said.

The man, 20, was in a a blue 1996 Plymouth Voyager heading south on Ala Napunani Street approaching the traffic circle at Likini Street when he opened the side sliding door of the van and jumped out, police said. The man was intoxicated and arguing with other passengers in the van before the incident, police said.

The van continued toward Salt Lake Boulevard without stopping but then returned about 15 minutes later, police said. Officers arrested the driver, 19, for driving while intoxicated and failure to render aid.

The driver was not injured, nor were four other male passengers, ages 22, 20, 16 and 15.
