KAPALUA — Geoff Ogilvy is facing longer odds of winning three straight years at the Tournament of Champions after a swimming accident left him with 12 stitches in his finger.

Details were still not clear how Ogilvy injured his right index finger in the ocean on Tuesday. Tour officials say he had 12 stitches as a precaution, and the Australian decided not to play in the pro-am Wednesday on the Plantation Course at Kapalua.

Ogilvy won the last two years and is trying to join Stuart Appleby as the only player to claim the winners-only tournament three successive times at Kapalua.

The tournament begins Thursday.
