Kamehameha Schools is hiring deputy sheriffs this week for an extra security presence at its Kapalama campus.

“We had a potential security concern on our campus last month, and because of our large student and staff population we decided to test our ability to quickly mobilize our security,” Kekoa Paulsen, Kamehameha Schools spokesman, said in a written statement. The test will continue for the rest of the week.

Paulsen declined to discuss last month’s incident, but said the students and campus were never threatened.
