A brown water advisory has been issued for the Maalaea-Kihei area on Maui, from Haycraft Beach Park to Kalama Park, because of runoff heavy rains.

The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, overflowing sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, chemicals, pathogens, and associated flood debris.

If coastal waters are turbid and brown, stay out, officials say.
