Gingrich appearing at GOP dinner

Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a potential Republican contender for president in 2012, is scheduled to speak at the state GOP’s Lincoln Day dinner and fundraiser in February.

The Georgia Republican, one of the architects of the "Contract with America" that helped the GOP take back the House in 1994 after 40 years under Democratic control, has been an author and lecturer since leaving elected office. Tickets to the Feb. 18 event are $150 per person, with higher rates for VIP treatment and preferred seating.

Separate water mains burst in Aiea

Flooding was reported in two Aiea locations, but not because of the rain.

The Board of Water Supply said a 4-inch water main broke about 6:30 a.m. yesterday and sent water cascading into the first floor of a two-story home at 99-049 Nalopaka Place. Two fire companies responded and helped pump water out of the home.

Another 4-inch main broke about 9:30 Tuesday night at 99-1028 Aiea Heights Drive, near Hokio Place. About 11 homes were left without water.
