California tourist dies after being helped to shore on Kauai
A 68-year-old California tourist died on Kauai after he got into distress while swimming in waters off of the Marriott Waiohai hotel in Poipu, county officials said.
He was identified Sunday as Charles McGowin of Carmel.
McGowin got into trouble around 3 p.m. Saturday and was helped to shore, where lifeguards administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation until Kauai firefighters arrived.
He was then taken to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
