Father of UH athlete Ostrowski dies
Damian “Kui” Ostrowski, a former standout Maryknoll basketball player and the father of University of Hawaii basketball and football player Miah Ostrowski, died early this morning. He was 43.
Ostrowski is survived by his wife, Michele, and children Miah, Raquel and Mia.
Michele Ostrowski said her husband had a seizure and heart failure and wasn’t able to be revived by doctors.
He played on the 1984 Maryknoll team that won the state championship.
Miah Ostrowski, a Punahou graduate, joined the UH basketball team in December. He recently took on a larger role on the team, becoming the backup point guard. Kui was overjoyed to see his son play at the Stan Sheriff Center, particularly last week, Michele said.
UH plays Utah State on Saturday. Ostrowski had full participation in today’s team practice and intends to play against the Aggies.
