Bystanders at an Ala Moana area gym helped breakup a confrontation between two 50-year-old men early yesterday morning, police said.

The two men have a longstanding dispute, police said. One of the men was leaving the gym at about 5:30 a.m. when the other allegedly came up from behind, brandished a weapon and attempted to hit him, police said. The victim called for help and bystanders intervened, police said.

The suspect fled, but was arrested at his Century Center apartment shortly afterwards.
