First impressions are always difficult. Usually you make assumptions about people that tend to be off base. More often than not, our impressions change, and after re-watching the pilot episode of “Hawaii Five-0” last night, I have a completely different impression of the team and of our first introduction of our heroes. I found myself really understanding the complexities of their characters and the foundation the writers were setting for our heroes.

Sang Min asked, “What kind of cops are you?” Well, we now know what kind of cops McGarrett, Danno, Chin, and Kono are — good cops, cops who love their work, cops who are most definitely “the new kind.” They may take liberties most cops cannot take, but they do this to solve the case, get the bad guys, and make Hawaii safe from all that is wrong in the world.

Great recap. I love the fact that McG and Danno’s first meeting is with guns pulled on each other. They’ve come a long way since then, but the scene epitomizes the fact that they can be at odds with the way police work should be done. Their approach on case solving- one as a military man and one as a detective determines the theme for the entire season.

great article. love the show and hope for a long long run.

I would like to see an eposide where Chin Ho is cleared of being a dirty cop.

Nice nice show. I would LOVE to see a movie version of this show in a year or so…McGarett going from island to island chasing some master criminal…lots of shots from the air, and hold that shot for awhile…great show, great acting, Dano is a 10! More Kona please. Steve is great too….more Navy seal stuff….watch the weal spots where the criminals can sneak up on your 6!

We now have Hawaii 50 in Sydney Australia. Love the show and of course its star McGarrett. Have just had 6 weeks in Hawaii and the Hawaiian scenes make me want to return tomorrow. Love It!!

  5. You beautifully summed it up! I watched it several times by now and I am amazed everytime around how intense the writers wrote the depth of each character from the beginning and with how much talent and heart all for actors managed to bring that to life. I am just humbled by the beauty of that show and i am not (only) talking about Alex O’Loughlin and the island, but about the story itself and the message it provides: “No task is too big when done together.”
