Island Pacific’s ILH D-II win was title-worthy
It was more than a victory Tuesday for Island Pacific Academy. It brought the school its first boys basketball title.
In a game of neophyte programs, the Navigators defeated St. Francis 51-39 at Damien gym to win the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II boys basketball title. IPA is in its fourth year of varsity basketball, while St. Francis’ boys were playing in their first.
IPA earned a berth in next week’s state tournament.
St. Francis remains alive for the second ILH berth in the state D-II tournament. The Saints will play Hanalani at 6 p.m. today at Maryknoll in a single-elimination tournament. The other game has University against Hawaii Baptist at 5 p.m. at Klum Gym.
The winners of today’s games will play Saturday at a site and time to be determined for the second ILH berth in the tournament.
