The 2011 Hawaii baseball season isn’t here just yet, but at least the Rainbows can take some swings against fresh faces.

Baseball players past and present will meet up at Les Murakami Stadium today for the annual alumni game beginning at 1 p.m.

The game, in conjunction with tomorrow’s Grand Slam Celebration at the Stan Sheriff Center, is a sign the season is just around the corner.

The Rainbows open with ninth-ranked Oregon in six days.

"Everyone’s excited to get things going," junior Kolten Wong said. "It’s always fun to play with the guys that played (at Hawaii) before me."

Fifteen alumni have committed to the game so far, including UH football strength coordinator Tommy Heffernan, who played for the ‘Bows from 1988 to ’91.

Kevin Fujii and Harrison Kuroda, who were both part of Hawaii’s run to the NCAA tournament last year, will play in the game as alumni for the first time.

Hawaii coach Mike Trapasso said right-hander Matt Sisto would start for the ‘Bows. He also expected junior Michael Blake, a left-hander that throws in the low 90s, and Lenny Linsky to pitch.

Linsky was recently named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year watch list.
